Travel Tips Around Puerto Princesa
Puerto Princesa airport has regular daily flights from Manila, and less regular flights from Cebu. You can book through the main airlines: Philippine Airlines, Air Philippines, and Cebu Pacific. One tip: this is a very competitive flight market in the Philippines, and there are often special low price offers, so be sure to check all three airlines if you want to save some money. The airport is being expanded, and the aim is to have direct international flights.
Getting around Puerto Princesa itself is easy. You could wait for a taxi, but you need to allow a few years for one to arrive. Puerto Princesa city proper is too small to justify taxis, although car hire is available through the hotels and pension houses. The tricycle is the most readily available means of transport, and is very cheap. Just stand at the side of the road, and one will come along. There is no need to stand and way like crazy as you would for a London or New York taxi. The tricycle drivers are very alert, and eye contact, a slight nod of the head, or a gentle downward summons with the hand is usually enough if they are looking for passengers.
